All the technical bits and pieces

Our Fibre to the Home solutions can be delivered over any optical infrastructure, utilising both a single and dual fibre to each user.

Broadband, telephony and IPTV services can either be delivered over an optically split (GPON), or point-to-point fibre network. The difference simply lies in the method in which the fibre is delivered.

Optically Split (GPON)

GPON connects one fibre to a small street-side unit, and then splits connections directly to each customer’s premises. As opposed to P2P, there are no electronics in the unit.

Key benefits:

  • Up to 64 premises can be connected
  • More cost effective method of delivering FTTH, as it minimizes the fibre and fibre-cable electronics utilised and saves on infrastructure
  • Eco-sustainable
  • Underground and overhead solutions available to meet a wide variety of needs

Suitable for:

  • Delivering high speed services to areas requiring a smaller number of individual connections
  • Those requiring a more cost effective fibre optic solution

Point-to-Point (P2P)

P2P fibre networks utilise existing Ethernet technology. A dedicated fibre is connected to each individual user’s premises from the local exchange with a specified capacity. Alternatively, the fibre can be connected through a mini-exchange with active electronic equipment.

Key benefits:

  • Thousands of premises can be connected through a single local exchange
  • 100 premises can be connected through a mini-exchange

Suitable for:

  • Delivering high speed services to businesses and high density dwellings
  • Environments requiring engineering flexibility
