Welcome to Spring City Borough’s Official Website

The County Commissioners have issued an immediate ban on open burning.

The details are in a memo issued from the offices of the County Commissioners. Outside burning in Chester County is banned until further notice. Click here for the memo. For more information on fire conditions for wildfires and open burning go to the Pennsylvania Fire Wardens Association District 17 website at www.pffwa17.org.

An ad hoc committee of volunteers headed by Councilor James J. Burns are performing a “windshield survey” of the structures in Spring City for the “historic overlay district project” proposed by Councilor Mike Hays several months ago. The committee with the assistance of the County Parks & Recreation Department is surveying older buildings in Spring City.

The volunteers were trained to document the age, materials, style, condition, and location of select properties in the borough. Armed with an inventory list developed in the late 1980′s by Estelle Cramers, they will be creating a database of properties in the borough. In some cases they will be photograping properties and even interviewing property owners to deterime the historical significance of a structure.

Spring City Borough is in the early stages of developing a historic preservation ordinance to honor and protect our heritage. Unlike some other communities, Spring City is not pursuing a HARB or a listing on the National Register of Historic Places.

Schuylkill River Trail Update

spacer

The Chester County Commissioners have officially announced the completion and opening of the three mile section of the Schuylkill River Trail (SRT) between the Cromby power station on the outskirts of Phoenixville and the south side of East Bridge Street in Spring City. There is a new trail head parking facility located off Township Line Road near Cromby.

The remaining trail segment from East Bridge Street north to Parkerford is scheduled to be completed in the Fall of 2011 with a formal dedication ceremony at that time. The county has acquired the former Ann Tudor property located on Old Schuylkill Road across from the Parkerford Tavern; it will be used as a ranger station for the trail.

Current Updates

June 5, 2012

Please be advised that the work on the flashing warning signal for the Schuylkill River Trail Crossing is finished.

The job consisted of digging footers, electrical work, new sidewalk, and milling and overlay for the road crossing. This milling and overlay is separate from the project for all of East Bridge Street scheduled for later in the spring.
