    The Baker Street Irregulars

The most famous Sherlock Holmes society is the Baker Street Irregulars, founded 1934 by Christopher Morley. Membership is by invitation only. The major event is an annual January dinner in New York — the centrepiece of an annual "birthday weekend" that brings hundreds of Sherlockians to New York.

The BSI has dozens of "scion societies" across the United States, and kindred societies in other countries. It publishes the quarterly Baker Street Journal.

    Canada's national society

spacer The Bootmakers of Toronto, taking its name from an allusion in The Hound of the Baskervilles, is the parent society for Canadian Sherlockians, as well as the local society for those in Toronto and nearby. It meets half a dozen times a year, most often at the Toronto Reference Library.

The Bootmakers publish a quarterly magazine, Canadian Holmes. Bootmaker membership, including a subscription to CH, costs $25 a year (that's $25 Canadian in Canada, $25 US in the United States, because of higher postage costs).
