About Greta & Mabel

Once Upon a Time
spacer … there was a pig called Greta, a pig with big dreams and ambitions. Her sights were set on movie stardom and Paris was to be her destination, with the Eiffel Tower as her back drop and several starring roles in movies. Life was good. A regular face at the Moulin Rouge and around Montmatre , Greta soon became the toast of Paris society and was a regular guest at the Elysee Palace.  Then something bad happened, something very bad, disastrous actually … after years of strict dieting, Greta became unable to resist the temptations of Paris. Oh, the pastries and the catering truck! Croissants…pain au chocolate…petit fours, the list was as endless as Greta’s appetite. Before  long, Greta was twice the pig she was when she had arrived. “Mon dieu!” cried the movie director, “zis pig must go, she is far too fat for my movie! She iz only good for bacon now!”. Greta wanted to be on a movie screen, not a dinner plate. Terrified, she ran away as fast as her little legs would carry her. With a tear in her eye and her curly tail between her legs, Greta left Paris that day with broken dreams, a broken heart and her movie career in the Parisian gutter.

The next day she sat at London’s St. Pancras train station eating a left over donut and drinking a half empty can of lemonade, wondering where it all went wrong. Now her dreams were finished and so should she be, she thought. She made her way to the edge of the platform, picking up a discarded apple pie as she went. She closed her eyes tightly as the 16.45 non stop fast train approached. Just as she was about to fling all four trotters onto the track, she felt the presence of another animal by her side and she stayed put. There beside her was Mabel, a stray dog with only three legs, who was still willing to lend a paw to Greta in her hour of need.

Mabel led her away from the track and they woofed and oinked into the small hours of the morning, sharing tales of animals they had heard of that were also down on their luck and needed some help. They left St. Pancras the next morning as firm friends, united in their dreams to show the world that all animals, four, two and three legged deserved to live a life full of love, care and respect (and as many donuts as they required).
