Every industry has “majors” and “independents,” and the same is true in the entertainment industry. An independent film or TV program is financed primarily from sources outside the six major U.S. studios. Independent product is made at every budget range and is seen side-by-side with major studio releases. As the voice and advocate for independents worldwide, IFTA speaks out on critical matters, including the threat to a competitive marketplace posed by media consolidation and net neutrality, and the need to foster broad-based growth of the industry.
IFTA Members are companies that are active in production, licensing and financing of programming for international distribution.
The freedom for independents to create and distribute movies and television shows has been threatened by a handful of consolidated media companies that want to control distribution. IFTA has created and launched www.fightforindependents.org to increase public awareness.
Held annually in Santa Monica, the annual IFTA-produced American Film Market is the largest motion picture trade show in the world and a pivotal destination for independent filmmakers and industry executives.
