Andrew Hoppin is co-founder and CEO of New Amsterdam Ideas, a New York-based civic startup implementing open-source “Gov 2.0″ and “OpenGov” software solutions and strategies for governments.

Prior to founding NAI, he served as the CIO of the New York State Senate, where he executed an agenda to radically improve government transparency, citizen participation and operational efficiency. For this work, he was elected to the leadership of the New York State CIO Council, named to the 2011 “Government CIO 50” by Information Week, and selected by GovTech as the 2010 New York State Public Sector CIO of the Year.

Previously, Andrew created the “CoLab” collaboration program for NASA, and co-founded and directed business strategy for several internet companies including GoodStorm (now Zazzle) and CivicSpace Labs. He serves on the Advisory Boards of CivicCommons, Netroots Nation, the Space Generation Foundation, Open Plans, and the New Organizing Institute.

Ask him about his experience walking on Mars.
