New Fishing Courses for 2012
For 2012 Gliffaes in conjunction with Frank Williams are introducing new courses for 2012 in addition to the every popular Beginners Fly Fishing Courses.
- Improvers Dry Fly Fishing – two courses
- High Summer Tactics – one course
- Fly Fishing for Beginners – three courses
1.Improvers Dry Fly Fishing
Dry fly fishing is for many the epitome of the elegance that inspires many people to take up fly fishing in the first place but success with this facet of fly fishing can be a bit hit and miss. This course is designed to help improving fly anglers get a deeper understanding of what is required to be a more successful dry fly fisher. By learning to control the layout of the fly line on the water we can get our flies to drift without being dragged by surface currents, this then makes our flies look more natural to the trout and will increase takes. This control of the fly line is done through the use of mends and curved casts which is the basis for this course.
Course Dates and costs:
9,10,11 June 2012 ( 2 places left – 30th May)
22,23,24 June 2012 (1 places left – 30th May)
The cost for the course is £265 which includes refreshments and lunch but NOT B&B. This leave you free to choose what type of you room you would like to stay in. We suggest you arrive the evening before the course so that you are ready to start at 9am the next day. Courses are open to non-residents. There will be a maximum of six people on each course. Gliffaes reserves the right to cancel the course if there is not sufficient interest, a full refund will be given.
2.High Summer Tactics
Traditionally high summer has not been known as a great time of year for fly fishing. However with techniques that have been developed over the last 10 years it can be very rewarding and produce good catches of trout. Gliffaes hotel has some of the best water on the river Usk for fishing these methods and can produce great catches even in the middle of the day. If you would like to catch trout in the height of summer or just learn to fish fast broken water this course is for you.

I had 3 days tuition with Frank last season, and you could not meet a better instructor. I now don’t have to think about “how to fish”, and I have far more confidence and of course, ability. You will be amazed at what you can learn in 3 days!
