About
spacer This blog is a collection of my ideas, successes, failures, inspiration and whimsy. This is where I share some of what I do and how I do it with the hope that it will inspire you to chase after your own ideas.

Hi there!

I’m Steve Hoefer, the main brain behind Grathio Labs. For nearly twenty years I’ve been a freelance problem solver and writer. I work to remove the boundaries both physical and imagined between people and technology in order to make our lives better.  I encourage people to engage with technology in positive ways and develop technology that empowers people.  I am active in the Open Source software and hardware and encourage community innovation and creativity.  Recently I’ve been a writer for MAKE magazine, appeared internationally on TV, radio, and print, as well as on major technology and culture blogs like Gizmodo, BoingBoing and Make: Online.

I have a breadth and depth of experience that allows me to tackle challenging projects both large and small.  I’ve designed games for EA and Namco, designed interfaces for Adobe and HP, helped solve problems for TNT, Lucasfilm, Marvel Comics, and other clients both global and local. I love engaging with anyone who has enthusiasm and challenging ideas.

I’ve lived and worked in diverse, creatively fertile environments throughout the world which gives me a unique perspective on technology and problem solving that focuses on humanity and efficacy.
Contact me via the links to the right if you have a challenge that you want to make real.
