SFW was originally formed in Utah by a handful of motivated sportsmen who directed the passion of more than 100,000 sportsmen into positive change.
Utah sportsmen were fed up with watching their precious deer and elk herds dwindle to near unsustainable levels. Utah was near the bottom of the list in the Rocky Mountain region for producing trophy and record-book big game. SFW has been the catalyst for change that put Utah on the road to recovery through habitat enhancement, increased funding and grass-roots muscle. Currently, the state is producing more record book deer and elk than any other state, and its trophy bighorn, buffalo and mountain goat herds are once again in record territory. Sportsmen from Texas to Alaska and Hawaii to Maine are following that lead to put their own states and wildlife back on the road to similar growth and recovery.
