So tell me: Which is your favourite line from a Chris Difford solo song?
For me, it’s got to be “I’ve got tits, just like my mum,” from ‘Fat As A Fiddle.’ Yes, an obvious one I know but such a classic example of the natural power of simple language. Which is your favourite? Leave a comment!

For me: My Mothers Handbag.
A packet of mints
A picture of me
A small leather purse
And a front door key
How that must ring true around the country/world in tens of thousands of handbags i’m sure!
“Sent out into the backfield, a horse without a plough”
The guy is a genius. He delivers it as a simple throw away line in the song with his typical dry wit, but it is such a powerful and emotive comment about the pathos of the male tendency to tie our identity so much to our sexuality.
So many, but staying current..’There was a time when Iād get
pissed, but now I see a therapist,he helps me through the old red mist’ from the great On My Own I’m Never Bored.
“He thinks I might be gay. And just like tooth decay that’s really sore!”
