    How it Works

Through our online learning options, our goal at Westwood College is to create an optimal learning environment as an alternative to a traditional classroom setting. A college degree can be a key ingredient in anyone's career success, but the traditional route of a campus and classroom is not the most effective or efficient path for everyone. Online programs are particularly attractive to students who require flexibility in order to balance demanding responsibilities and time constraints in their daily lives.

    Benefits include the opportunity to:

    • Manage the complexities of work, personal life and education on your terms
    • Access online courses any time of day or night from any place with just an Internet connection
    • Utilize industry standard technology and online resources
    • Communicate openly with faculty and fellow students via chat rooms and discussion groups
Following enrollment, first-time online students participate in an online orientation session to introduce them to Westwood and a variety of virtual tools and resources. Once a course begins, each student interacts with classmates and the faculty at his or her convenience. It’s easy to see why year after year, Westwood’s online programs are an increasingly popular educational alternative.

    Classroom activities

Westwood combines experienced faculty, practical course design, small class sizes and advanced technology to create a dynamic forum where you’ll experience interactive discussions with the faculty and other students on a regular basis. Classes may offer videotaped lectures, on-screen exercises and virtual chat sessions with other students. You’ll be involved in career-focused activities  and enjoy personalized support from our dedicated network of advisors and tutors.
Class materials and assignments will be posted online. Your faculty may offer questions for the class to debate, and active participation is highly encouraged to help you derive the maximum benefit from the course. You will spend your time writing, reading, engaging in online discussion groups, working on projects and/or doing research.

    Course requirements

Course requirements are outlined in the student’s course syllabus. Although classes do not meet at specific times, students are expected to "attend" their course by logging in several times a week. It is important to adhere to assignment deadlines and to ensure that interactive participation requirements are met as well. Students progress through the material together and take part in a virtual community experience.  You will normally be asked to post your first threaded discussion by Wednesday of each week and will be apprised of the due dates for weekly deliverables.  Most courses also include portfolio or research assignments. Your exams will be taken electronically.
