Thanks for visiting!

I begged my grandmother for a camera at the age of four; since then, I've never been without a camera!

I shoot mostly young people-- children and teenagers. I try to show their spirit and energy with honesty and sensitivity and to capture some of the gestures, subtleties, and nuances that define who they are. I try to spend enough time for kids to become comfortable with me, and me with them. Nearly always, the kids I shoot are aware of the camera, but are not posing for it.

I shoot custom lifestyle portraiture in a style that is simple and honest-- natural expressions and natural poses-- in an environment that is casual, relaxed, and fun. I have a studio, but prefer to shoot using natural light in settings where children will be most comfortable and free to be themselves. I hope to capture each child's true spirit and personality along with all of the gestures, nuances, and fleeting moments that define who that child really is.

My work has been published and exhibited. I am working-- very slowly-- on a book.

The last time I met her she was five years old (she still remembers us taking the pictures).  Now she is getting ready for high school and she looks like she belongs in a magazine!

I don’t do nearly as much street photography as I used to, but every so often, someone or something will just beg to be photographed.

Brothers: Color or B&W?

Sunday, March 25, 2012 at 2:01pm

I don’t get to see these Boston friends nearly often enough, and when I do, I try to catch some quick snaps of their boys.  I have some crazy shots of them being boy-goofy, but I like the more pensive look of these better. I’m not sure that you can tell that these were done in the middle of a busy hotel lobby (or that the boys had enough energy between them to power the city of New Orleans, where these were taken).

I can’t decide if I like the color or B&W better.  What do you think?

Megan - Wow! Those eyes are incredible. Just gorgeous, David!

Ceci Rosen - I like the color better..their eyes are outstanding!!

Dani Meier - You know me, David. All about the black and white. But just sold 4 photos for a fundraiser for Red Cross here in Jackson and 3 out of 4 were color. And the color, especially in the first boy's irises, is amazing. Great work.

Rosalind - These are beautiful. Both boys have such a hypnotic gaze. I love their freckles too. The B&Ws are great but I prefer the colour versions of each in this instance :-)

Lydia - Oh, David, they are just gorgeous, although ***disclaimer*** I may be a bit biased as their Mom :-) I love B&W, but I think in this case the color is so warm and makes their eyes really stand out. Dad votes for color too.

Lynda Coulson - Oh, definitely colour! Beautiful work, their gaze is lovely. I love how you captured this moment of quiet amongst what sounds like chaos.

Christie - Color!! They have amazing eyes and you captured them so well! Love these David, as I do all your images!

Lynn - I adore the intensity of these. Really powerful images.

Diane Shrier, MD - As the proud grandmother, I prefer the color hands down - for the eyes. Thanks! diane

DSR - Looks like color is going to be the hands-down winner. Besides, it seems to be what Mom, Dad, and Grandma prefer. Color it is!

Jeni - I love both the color and b&w, but I think I like the color a little better because their eyes are such a pretty color.

Lila - Both the color and b/w are gorgeous, I love how you have really showcased their beautiful eyes! Love these!

Alexis - OOOOooH...I loke the color ones...those eyes are amazing!

Julie Kraai - On these, it's a tough one, but I think I prefer the color versions. They are GORGEOUS!

Olga - as a pround nanny and also lucky to see those AMAZING! eyes every week, I have to say than B&W are goegeous but my vote is for the color ones.Great pictures

melissa klein - Ohhh...tough call! I usually am a huge fan of black and white conversions, but I think I've got to go with the color ones on these. They both have AMAZINGLY cool eye coloring! Great shots!

Jaidean - Wow - they have awesome color of eyes! I love the color versions!

tina stinson - WOW! look at those eyes! Great stuff!

Shawna Shenette - AMAZING! I am such a sucker for the close-ups and I love the color!

Becky - Wow, the first one sort of took my breath away! What gorgeous eyes! I love the color versions.

Rhonda - Those eyes are amazing .. color for sure!!

Amy - I'm voting color this time!

Zoe Berkovic - Such gorgeous eyes. You always capture the soul.

A Natural!

Shooting these pictures was nearly effortless (and so much fun) because Katie is such a natural model!  Glamorous when she wants to be, great smile, and even willing to brave the snow in search of the perfect picture!  Many many more great pictures coming!
