Michiels named Ms. LSU Alexandria 2012

Katlyn Ann Michiels of Alexandria was crowned Ms. LSU Alexandria at the 52nd annual pageant on Saturday, April 14 in the Brumfield Caffey Ballroom at LSUA. The sophomore nursing major will receive a $1,000 scholarship and represent LSU Alexandria at official university functions during the 2012-2013 academic year.

Michiels, whose pageant platform topic was “Autism Speaks: It’s time to listen,” is a member of the Student Nurses Association.

Jayln Chante Ashley, a sophomore nursing major from Alexandria, was chosen first runner-up and will receive a $500 scholarship. She also captured the Scholastic Achievement and the Ad Sales awards.

Arron Renee Contstante, a junior English student from Alexandria, was selected second runner-up and was chosen Ms. Congeniality. She also won the People’s Choice Award. Keisha Maria Swafford, a sophomore communication studies major from Pineville, won the Director’s Award. Contestants competed in casual and formal wear categories and participated in a pre-pageant interview with a three-member panel of judges from the community. The Ms. LSUA Pageant, which is open to any female student, has been held yearly since 1961. Kathy Wimmert, an academic and personal counselor in the Office of Student Services, was the pageant director.

Amanda Elizabeth Austin, a junior business major from Simmesport who served as Ms. LSU Alexandria 2011-2012, passed the crown to Michiels.
