a beginning and an end

It seems like just yesterday that I was exploring the world of time-elapsed photography to create videos of my orchid blossoms coming into the world. My mornings were filled with such anticipation and excitement in seeing this new growth as these little bulbous buds gave birth to big, bright blossoms. Spring sprung to life in my own bedroom.

The openness of these beauties reminded me to open my heart more fully and fill my world with loving light. Like the morning sun filling my room with light each morning.

Seasons change and, as I watch the blossoms droop then fall to the ground, I am reminded of nature’s way. Bidding farewell to these little beauties, I am reminded to not get attached to things. In doing so I find gratitude for the time that I had with them.

Contemplating death

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that some folks were not thrilled with the idea of me “playing” on the tracks. The fact that the train, which runs to the nearby rockery twice (in and out) on Tuesdays and Thursdays only offered little in the way of reassurance. To those who felt uneasy with my lightheartedness on the subject, my apologies. I truly meant no harm. However, i would like to explain a viewpoint. You need not agree. It’s just one point of view.

Having lived the majority of my life in fear of death, to the point of avoiding activities where harm could come and, likewise, sheltering the kids in similar fashion, I must admit that I prefer living in a manner where calculated risks are at least brought into consideration. Perhaps I’ve taken it a bit too far. Perhaps not.

caboose gettin’ loose

It seems like just yesterday I was shaking my head while running past a bunch of young kids walking down the center of the railroad tracks. Oh wait…it WAS yesterday! As a general rule, playing on the railroad tracks is a BAD IDEA. Who could dispute that?

Nevertheless, when there are no trains in sight, these particular tracks scream for some railway play. Just be sure to bring along your own train-spotter before letting loose your inner caboose.

“practice”

Last night, when I opted for some evening ashtanga practice after a midday run, I groaned with the first forward bend. “That’s why they call it ‘practice’” I thought.

Clearly my body needed a little more practice in going with the flow of my busy lifestyle.

By the time I found time to run it was at the heat of the day. It didn’t matter though. My body rejoiced at the gift of being able to get out of the office stillness and move. I found a meditation like calmness as I watched the trees pass by, and felt the ground under foot. Running! Oh, how I do love running!

But as I approached my turnaround point, I either lost focus or energy. My consciousness returned when my right big toe slammed into a big rock. OW! Pick up your feet, Julie! I kept on moving and soon was crossing over the river of rocks (no water). Once again, my awareness of my body came rushing back as the arch of my foot met the sharp edge of an unfriendly rock. OWIE!

I ran on. » Read the rest of the entry..
