September 24, 2006 - BOWIE, MD - The Bowie Baysox and Baltimore Orioles announced today that the two clubs have agreed on a four-year Player Development contract extension that runs through the end of the 2010 season.
"We are thrilled to continue our partnership with the Baltimore Orioles franchise heading into our 15th season in 2007," said Baysox General Manager Brian Shallcross. "The proximity of Baltimore makes the Double-A affiliation here in Bowie a great fit and we are excited to have the opportunity to work alongside the Orioles organization for another four years.
We are extremely pleased to continue to work with Bowie, Frederick and Delmarva," David Stockstill, Assistant General Manager/Director of Minor League Operations said. "Each has proven to be an outstanding affiliate for the Orioles. The facilities, people and locations are all excellent ingredients for the partnerships to continue to benefit the Orioles, Baysox, Keys and Shorebirds. We look forward to the future as we all work together in the Oriole family.
The Orioles reached renewal agreements with the Baysox sister ball clubs, the Frederick Keys (High-A Carolina League) and the Delmarva Shorebirds (Low-A South Atlantic League) after previously reaching agreements with the Norfolk Tides (Triple-A International League) and Aberdeen Ironbirds (Short Season-A New York Penn League) last week. The Orioles also will continue to operate their Rookie League team in Bluefield, WV.
This contract extension continues the Baysox partnership with the Orioles, since the teams inception in 1993. The Baysox have never been affiliated with another MLB parent club but the Orioles, a true rarity by todays standards. The team will celebrate their 15th Eastern League season in 2007.
The Baysox will begin their 2007 season at Trenton on Thursday, April 5th. Bowie will open up their 2007 home schedule with a seven-game homestand beginning Thursday, April 12th against the Akron Aeros at 7:05 pm.
