Historic House - The Hermitage
Proceeding up a long avenue flanked with pine trees, the historic house is reached. This historic mansion is the type so familiar in the days of the Colonial period up to just before the Civil War as a residence of the well-to-do. A refurbished 21-room mansion situated on 36 acres on the Mississippi River. Currently there are thirty-eight acres, sixteen of which are maintained as the formal grounds to the historic house. Winsford Walled Garden
Tucked away in the North Devon countryside is a restored Victorian walled garden. There were two types of Victorian walled garden, the most common was the walled vegetable garden; but the walled flower garden, such as the one at Winsford Walled Garden, was the second and the more unusual garden type.

Decorating Servant Rooms
At times it was felt that these rooms were above the zone of ornament and that there was virtue in their very ugliness. If the size of the room would warrant it, a rocking-chair or easy-chair was a part of the furnishings; in addition, the mattress and bed-springs would be of a quality to give ease to tired bones.
