The Vineyards: The Benefit Wines offered - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Malbec and Sauvignon Blanc are imported from LaFortuna Vineyards in Lontue Valley, Chile.
LaFortuna Vineyards: In 1918, Mr. Modesto Guell Coll arrived in Chile from Tarragona Spain.
He came to Chile following the steps of his ancestors, all of
them dedicated to the land and to wine making.
His commercial ability allowed him to buy his first property at the
Penon farm, located 15 km south from Santiago, now known as the Great Santiago.
In 1942 Don Modesto Guell sold El Penon and with a great commercial
vision, he purchased La Fortuna farm located 200 km south of
Santiago. He planted the property with fine grapevines such as Cabernet
Sauvignon, Malbec and Sauvignon Blanc.
During this time, Don Modesto's son, Daniel Guell Galofre joined his
father and helped him to continue the family tradition, producing better
wines each time. Anticipating market demands, Daniel planted
different kinds of grape varieties, and he put all his effort into
improving the harvest system and the quality of the fruit which was sold mainly in bulk to the big
wineries.
Once again the Guell's vision took them to loftier accomplishments. In the late
forties the current cellar was built consisting of 16 cement vats holding
55,000 liters each, 80 oak casks with 30,000 liters of capacity each,
45 stainless steel tanks with 1,200,000 liters and one automatic
bottling line of 2,000 bottles per hour.
The La Fortuna brand has been in the market since 1950.
Nowadays the third Guell generation, headed by Don Daniel Guell Galofre
and his son Luis Daniel Guell Borlando, maintain the tradition of
producing wines with the same dedication and passion as their
predecessors. The old cellar, located in the Maule Region of Lontue Valley, has turned
into a modern one, replacing parts of the old concrete and oak
vats into stainless steel tanks. Modern equipment such as pneumatic
presses, cooling systems and all the necessary infrastructure to
produce the high quality wines that the international markets demands has been introduced.
Taking advantage of the excellent sanitary conditions of Chile, and
maintaining the old traditions in land cultivation, La Fortuna has
transformed into one of the most important players in the organic wine production in all of Chile.
La Fortuna maintains the following certifications: Clean Prduction Certified - HACCP Certified Organic - IMO-Swiss CertificateFair Trade Certified- FLO-CERT Germany Certificate
