Our New Place in this Great Mystery

Right now in history, we are all present at the birth of a new creation story.  The old Adam and Eve tale of the beginning of the world is being replaced by a new scientific theory of a long ago “Big Bang”. Splendid images from the Hubble Telescope describe a universe incomprehensibly vast, and behaving strangely.

We are stardust ourselves, billion-year-old carbon. No doubt we have a right to be here. But where is the new music, the new poetry, the new art, to help us feel forward our new place in this great mystery?

I make art for the new situation in which we find ourselves. Of course, it is really about us here on Earth. Our sense of place, and the size of our imaginations, has had to stretch to include the immense new landscape of space. Somehow, it has deepened our interior space as well. My work places us in these new surroundings.
