Swim Diapers

by Jamie on June 5, 2012

'Tis the season for swim diaper questions.spacer

Swim diapers are fine to use for the newly potty trained.

The circumstances around swimming are special enough that it doesn't create confusion. Nor will it derail the process. What will derail the process is having your child be the one who poops in the pool and everyone has to get out and all eyes are on you. And not in a good way.  Just put the diaper on when putting on the suit and take it off when your child is done swimming. Be sure to get a pee before getting in and upon getting out.

This can go for the beach and lake as well. Use your judgement though. If you have a beach house and are spending 8 hours a day on the beach, you don't want her in a swim diaper the whole time. You should encourage your child to get out of the water if they feel the need to pee or poop. AND YOU SHOULD HONOR THIS AS IF THERE WASN'T A DIAPER ON. I know this can be inconvenient…but you are not using a diaper for convenience. You are using it so a big glaring accident doesn't ruin your life for a day.

Happy Summer! (except in RI, where it's inexplicably freezing)

But right now, thinking about parenting, I'm wondering is easy, better? Yes, diapers are easier.  A big reason we have 3 and a half [...]

Philosophy

May 24, 2012

Parenting philosophy is a hot topic. Particularly after stupid, jerk Time Magazine made it one. But here's my view on philosophy: DOES IT WORK FOR YOU? More importantly…does it work for you and your whole family? If it does, excellent. If it doesn't, ditch it. In my work, I find a lot of Mamas who [...]

Get Your Own Thing

May 21, 2012

This is what I do for fun. For 2 hours, every week, I swing, climb and hang from aerial silks. It's a killer workout, yes and it also feeds my very soul. I use my strength, my breath and my artistry. But mostly I do it because for those 2 hours I don't think of [...]
