I received my first camera when I was eight years old — a Kodak 110 film camera. Throughout my early teens I dabbled in nature photography, eventually upgrading to a Minolta SLR body and a telephoto 70-300mm lens. Then the birding bug hit me pretty badly, and for many years I quit taking photos seriously. It wasn’t until 2008 when I rediscovered my love of the hobby and purchased my first DSLR (digital SLR) — a Sony a200. Today my equipment is even more sophisticated, and I currently shoot wildlife with a Sony a550 body and a Sigma 50-500mm f/4-6.3 lens. For landscapes I use a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8, and for macro-type shots I use my old Minolta 28-80mm f3.5-5.5. I recently purchased a Tamron 180mm f/3.5, which is a lens with amazingly sharp close-focus capabilities that will undoubtedly become my go-to for macro photos.
Having spent most of my life in the great state of Minnesota, the vast majority of my photographic exploits have taken place there. I enjoy working close to home; however when the opportunity arises I do cherish the chance to expand my portfolio with new scenes and subjects.
