Congratulations to Disability Studies PhD candidate Vijay Vasudevan, who is the winner of the 2012 Midwest Roybal Center for Health Promotion and Translation doctoral pilot project grant competition. Congratulations to Disability Studies PhD candidate Kate Caldwell, who was awarded a Chancellor's Graduate Research Fellowship for 2011-2012. Read the news release here. IDHD has released the final report of "An Evaluation of the Howe Developmental Center Closure" by Amy Sorensen, Mary Kay Rizzolo, Amie Lulinski-Norris & Tamar Heller. Read it here. The AUCD has released a document titled Getting Involved in Research and Training Projects: A Guide for Persons with Disabilities which was co-authored by several IDHD staff. Professor and Director of the Center on Capacity Building for Minorities with Disabilities Research Fabricio Balcazar was recently featured in a UIC News article on a new two-year project on youth with disabilities and entrepreneurship. Read the article here. Associate Professor and Director of the Program on Disability Art, Culture, and Humanities Carrie Sandahl was recently interviewed on the Disability Beat radio program. She discussed her film project, Code of the Freaks a documentary exploring the portrayal of disability in mainstream film as well as viewers reactions.
