Beach House
“Bloom”
Hailing From: Baltimore, Maryland
Release Number: 4th
Genre: Dream Pop
Label: Sub Pop

Beach House has consistently released an album every two years since their self-titled debut back in 2006. 2012 is the year for Bloom. They’ve become known, over the years, for Victoria Legrand’s spooky contralto vocals and Alex Scully’s perfectly paired riffs and catchy melodies. This album is no different in respect to their trademark style. Released in the beginning of the summer, it’s perfectly timed to carry us through the season. Littered with sound clips of the sea and the wind, Bloom feels well fit for the coming months. Bringing their style in a slightly more ominous and developed direction, Beach House leaves the feel of Teen Dream behind as they move forward with their latest endeavor; however, that’s not to say it will be a disappointment.

A No-Hitter for Johan Santana!!!

Johan Santana embraces Josh Thole following Santana tossing the first no-hitter in New York Mets history.

It has finally happened!  The New York Mets have a no-hitter, and what a fantastic way to have it happen, with the man who had a shoulder surgery that every “expert” said would never be the same, the man who one of the guys in the package for him has thrown a no-hitter, the man who has taken this Met team on his back every time he has taken the mound in a Met uniform.  Johan Santana threw the first no-hitter in the history of the Amazin’s, and even this diehard Yankee fan was watching the Mets instead of the Yankees last night from the 7th inning on.  What an accomplishment for Johan and every Mets fan out there.

Kerry Wood embraces his son following his last major league appearance.

I am a little late to the party, but I think a bit of a memoir is in order for the career of Kerry Wood, who announced his retirement following the game on Friday, May 18th, versus the crosstown rival White Sox.  If you have not seen the picture at right,He gave his son a long embrace when he came off the field, received several curtain calls from the fans, had given his pitching coach and fellow relievers handshakes before he came into the game, and received another handshake from each of the infielders and his manager when he left the game after striking out the only hitter he faced.  The Cubs lost, but the next day he announced his retirement in front of the Wrigley faithful, and received a blown up picture of the embrace with his son the day before.  He said he had no regrets, went to his son’s little league game earlier in the day and was happy with his decision.
