This is a comic called Rue Britannia which friends Hyperbubble say bis is included in the story as one of the bands the main character uses to make magic! They explain: “The story centers around a “Phonomancer”, one who uses pop records to create magic. Bis records are used in a similar manner as Kenickie records, of which the phonomancer claims, “…by the nature of their very existence, draw a line between all the forced dichotomies of modern pop. Seriousness is not the same as intelligence, no matter how many times virginal Radiohead fans reiterate it. Their wit does mean the slow-witted haven’t noticed they wrote the most incisive hymns to both ends of the rejection axis - both darkened bedrooms and darkened clubs turned into churches to the human condition….Radiohead and Shampoo? Equally Britpop. But Shampoo were better.”

We have some exciting news!  Manda Rin’s art “Cover Versions and Other Hits” will be displayed and on sale in Mono in Glasgow from Thursday 19th - 25th July.  Details on the collection is below.  To celebrate the launch, Bis will be performing their first Glasgow show in ages that evening in Mono!  Support is from We are the Physics and tickets are £6 from TIcketweb, Monorail and Ticket Scotland.  As we’re performing at Wickerman Festival the next day, this is going to be a fun night that I hope you can join us for!

“Cover Versions and Other Hits”

Cover Versions is a collection of classic alternative album sleeves reworked by Bis member and solo artist Manda Rin. Having been responsible for her own band’s artwork, including the iconic cover of their 1996 debut “New Transistor Heroes”, Manda’s unique style has been celebrated worldwide; especially in Japan, where a mutual love of Manga led to the publishing of her very own comic strip in a popular magazine.

Manda has selected a collection of albums that have either changed her life or clearly defined a period of her life. Manga reworkings of The Slits’ classic “Cut” or X-ray Spex’s revolutionary debut clearly define early Bis, while other surprising choices such as Belle and Sebastian’s “Fold Your Hands Child You Walk Like A Peasant” reveal a mellower side to the famously energetic singer.

In an era where album art is struggling to find its footing in a digital world, Manda’s work serves as a gentle reminder of how important album covers are in being the face of life-changing music.

Each piece in the collection is available as a limited edition digital print with only 25 copies.

We are happy to announce that Bis will be performing at Wickerman Festival 2012 near Dundrennan, South West Scotland on 20th July.  When we were offered this earlier this year, we weren’t able to announce it until the press release (today), and other bands including Scissor Sisters and Cast who will also playing are listed here.  This gave us the idea of getting a London gig as a “warm-up”, which then created such excitement after selling out in just 4 hours that we added a 2nd London gig.  This also sold out in one day!

We sadly don’t intend to do announce any other dates at the moment (baby Disco number 2 is on the way very soon!), but thought we’d explain how everything came about.  We look forward to these gigs and hope to see you there!

We’re not doing any more English dates other than the 2 London gigs. But….what if those gigs were in fact a warm-up for
