BASIC LEADER TRAINING FOR ALL DIRECT CONTACT LEADERS IS NOW REQUIRED FOR RECHARTER FOR THE 2012 PROGRAM YEAR.

SCOUTMASTER POSITION SPECIFIC TRAINING IS ONE OF THE COURSES INCLUDED IN BASIC LEADER TRAINING FOR ALL SCOUTMASTERS, ASSISTANT SCOUTMASTERS, VARSITY TEAM COACHES AND ASSISTANT COACHES.

If your son joined a troop through School Nights this fall or crossed over to a troop last spring or your son is getting ready to cross over soon and you want to be active with your son’s troop, please check out the training opportunities listed below for both Troop Committee members and Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmasters.

Listed below are all of the Boy Scout Leader Position Specific courses (Scoutmaster Position Specific and Troop Committee Position Specific) available around Central Florida Council through June 2011. Information listed below includes all classes as reported to the Council Training Committee as of January 21st. As additional information is received, it will be added to future promotional announcements. All districts are asked to send their complete training schedules to Nell Colbert at necolbert@usa.net as soon as possible.

The courses below are listed by date along with information on how to register for these classes as well as who to contact if you have questions.

If you changed positions in your unit this year, are a new Boy Scout parent/leader or were not able to get your training completed last spring, here’s a wonderful way to make sure that your son and his friends have a fantastic program – attend the training you need so that you will have a better time as a leader and your scouts will have more FUN! It’s never too late to get the training you need J

Remember – every boy deserves a trained leader.

Prior registration for all training sessions is REQUIRED in order to allow each training team to adequately prepare handouts and other materials used during the trainings. PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS EMAIL – please register through the contact information listed for the particular district in which you would like to attend training.

Scouters are encouraged to attend training in any district – just pick a date and location that is convenient for you and register for that training as noted below.

Position Specific Training is the next step in training beyond Youth Protection and Fast Start, and now is completed BEFORE This is Scouting. Every leader needs to take the position specific training for your position in Boy Scouting, regardless of your prior training or experience, in order to complete your required basic training to be considered fully trained for your position and eligible to wear the trained strip on your uniform. Long-term leaders are encouraged to retake position specific training every 3 years just to stay up to date with any changes that may have been made to the overall program.

The information above applies to those leaders serving our Boy Scout Troops. Information on Cub Scout Leader Position Specific and all outdoor training opportunities will be sent out in separate emails.

If the information for your district is not listed here, please contact your Training Chair or your District Executive for more information. As information from more districts is received, it will be shared.

Complete listings for all training opportunities can be found on the training page on the council website:

cflscouting.org/Leaders/Training/tabid/71/Default.aspx

If the dates this training is offered in your own district do not fit into your personal schedule, please look at the dates this course is available in neighboring districts and pick a date that works for you. Leaders may take training in any district.

Please remember – a scout is courteous: If you will not be able to attend a training session for which you register, please remember to cancel your registration so that your slot may be opened up to someone else who would like to attend.

IS YOUR YOUTH PROTECTION TRAINING CURRENT?

ALL REGISTERED VOLUNTEERS MUST HAVE A CURRENT YOUTH PROTECTION CERTIFICATE IN ORDER TO RECHARTER EACH YEAR.
