We are situated in the camping area, close enough to the entertainment and the campsite toilet and shower facilities, but offering a welcome retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the market and stages.

LeeFest started as a community of 150 young people in a back garden, it has now grown to 1500 people in a field but we try to keep the same vibes. Although being centred around young people we have now reached out and have an audience of all ages, shapes and sizes. It’s one of those events when everybody comes together and celebrates life togeth

LeeFest dreams came true in 2009: ITV, Radio 1, BBC 6music, London Metro and many more provided features on the event, we had more than 1000 people on site, built an artificial beach, face-painted everyone, the Porter Loo total hit 14 and we introduced a third stage to the site to increase our line up to over 30 artists! LeeFest 2009 was a fresh start with a jump up in the professionalism but still capturing the DIY essence, and has begun a new era for the festival. For the first time we had professional artists on the line up, but we also stuck by our aim of billing them alongside as much local talent as possible. The Holloways really proved themselves as headliners and graced us with the accolade of being ‘the best small festival they have played at!’ Starsmith turned out to be many people’s favourite act of the day and The Xcerts provided an astoundingly energetic show. We also began a new link with charity Kids Company and they are so good we have decided to support them again! LeeFest 2009 was the best yet by far, the only problem is how can we beat that!

The third festival was surreal. Organised in under a month, for the first time it took place in an actual field, away from the garden. Over 600 attended and enjoyed around 20 artists over 8 hours. The site itself was perhaps a little too big but this was a change that had to be made to extend the life of the festival. The major jump to a field meant we also needed a licence, serious amounts of fencing, lighting, sound gear and manpower. We also had to ditch the illegal bar. All in under a month it proved a tough year but the day was so successful it made everything worth it. This year was still very, very DIY!

Since its ad hoc creation, LeeFest has continued to grow and improve at an almost exponential rate. Mostly this has happened by accident, but for the parts we play as organisers we try our best to stick to a few principles that we believe makes the festival what it is.

We believe that LeeFest should be about offering opportunities and inspiration as well as an entertaining day for the audience. We offer opportunities to unsigned artists to play alongside seasoned professionals. That way the amateurs can learn a thing or to from the professional experience, and we’re pretty sure the pro’s learn a thing or to from the amateurs energy and creativity! Not just for the artists though, we also offer opportunities for people to get involved in all aspects from tech crew to painters. It’s all about learning from each other and being constructive.

Keeping the festival non-profit is a safeguard to protect everything that the festival stands for. Ensuring that any profits are split between charity and being put back into the event means it can never fall prey to the natural greed of man. The audience get an event that is entirely worth the ticket price and everybody coming together to support a good cause creates an amazing atmosphere!
