On the Importance of the Hebrew Calendar
Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi (Alter Rebbe), founder of Chabad Chassidut, would often state that every Jew must learn how to relate to the weekly Torah portion as if it were describing events presently occurring in his or her own life--thus assuring that one is "living with the times," with the true time-frame of existence marked by the yearly cycle of the Torah reading as well as by the cycle of festivals which occur during the Hebrew calendar year. By setting one's own internal clock to the pulse and rhythm of Jewish life, one discovers the true harmony between God, man and Creation.

Freedom of Choice - Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3
The well known paradox of God's omniscience vs. man's freedom of choice is studied in context of the well-known saying from Rabbi Akiva "Everything is foreseen,
Yet, freedom of choice is granted;
The world is judged with goodness,
And everything is according to the preponderance of action." Further insight into this paradox is gained by applying it to the Hebrew calendar in a fascinating example of Kabbalistic analysis.
