Standing up for the kids on her block
Diane Latiker saw children suffering and stepped forward. Her life ha since changed. So has the live of several hundred youngsters on Chicago’s South Side. Listen to this interview from blogger Marcie Hill, one of our We Are Not Alone contributors, with Diane Latiker, who founded Kids Off the Block. Marcie writes:
I had the pleasure of interviewing Diane Latiker, the Executive Director of Kids Off the Block youth program located in the Roseland community on Chicago’s South Side. Diane is the perfect example of a community leader. She opened her heart and home to ALL the kids in her community to keep them safe. They didn’t know her and she didn’t know them, but she made them feel at home and they kept returning. Her genuine concern for the young people probably saved numerous lives from untimely deaths. Listen to her story of how she got started, what keeps her going and how the community can help her continue to keep young people off the street, which helps save their lives.
