Nevada Humanities Programs

Programs sponsored by Nevada Humanities provide opportunities for Nevadans to read widely, think deeply, and become engaged in their community. In addition to the several hundred separate activities supported each year through grants, Nevada Humanities coordinates several programs directly or in cooperation with other organizations.

Chautauqua is a living history program in which scholars in costume and in character, bring historical figures to life. Educational and entertaining, Chautauqua programs provide dramatic insights into the people and events that have shaped our nation and the world, and also provide a historical lens for looking at contemporary issues and enduring humanistic concerns.

Young Chautauqua is an award winning youth program in which young people learn how to research and develop original Chautauqua presentations. The Young Chautauqua program received a Coming Up Taller Award from the President's Commission on the Arts and Humanities.

Vegas Valley Book Festival brings award-winning authors to southern Nevada, and draws attention to the state's growing number of writers and poets. Started by Nevada Humanities in 2002, the book festival is sponsored by a number of partner organizations.

Food for Thought is an annual dinner that benefits the programs of Nevada Humanities. Each table offers thought-provoking conversation hosted by passionate and engaged members of the community.

Nevada Humanities is serving as a convening for a civic reflection initiative. This new initiative is evolving.

Humanities on the Road is a speakers bureau that includes a number of offerings by Chautauqua scholars, among others. Programs sponsored by Nevada Humanities provide opportunities for Nevadans to read widely, think deeply, and become engaged in their community.
