    Amphibian named after Prince Charles

    A new species of amphibian has been named after one - the Prince of Wales. The unusual honour has been bestowed on the heir to the throne by a conservation organization in recognition of his efforts to help safeguard the world's rainforests. The rare species of Ecuadorian stream frog has been named Hyloscirtus princecharlesi in honour of the royal's environmental campaigning over the years.

    The Queen attended a service at St Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh to install Prince William as a Knight of the Thistle. The Princess Royal and The Countess of Strathearn (Kate) attended the service as well. The Order of the Thistle is the highest honour in Scotland and is second only in precedence in the UK to the Order of the Garter. It honours men and women who have held public office or who have contributed in a significant way to national life.

    The Duchess of Cornwall, Patron of the Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust, celebrated the charity’s 25th anniversary by officially opening the new headquarters in Newquay Airport this morning. The Duchess toured the air ambulance crew quarters, received a demonstration of specialist equipment currently under trial, and met a patient who credits the Cornwall Air Ambulance with saving her life. The Duchess of Cornwall has been patron of the Cornwall Air Ambulance since 2011.

    The Queen yesterday took part in an ancient ceremony to formally receive her into the City of Edinburgh, as she marks her Diamond Jubilee with a week-long visit to Scotland. The annual Ceremony of the Keys saw the monarch handing the keys of the city and welcomed to "your ancient and hereditary kingdom of Scotland" by the Lord Provost. Tradition dictates that the monarch then returns the keys, entrusting their safekeeping to Edinburgh's elected officials.

Participation in DofE programmes and the number of Awards achieved has grown every year since 1956. Today over 280,000 young people take part in DofE programmes in groups which are run in 10,533 DofE centres throughout the UK. Centres range from youth clubs and schools to voluntary organization meeting places, businesses and Young Offenders Institutions.
