ABOUT US

“Someone asked us what we’re like.

I’d say we’re a perfect mix of the 2 great Catherines: Breillat & O’Hara.

Fat Girl meets SCTV, anyone?”

Julie Keck and Jessica King’s first movies were inspired by inside jokes and made primarily to tickle the fancies of their closest friends. In 2001, they were delighted when Girl Rods was screened at the Women in the Director’s Chair Film Festival in Chicago, IL.

The short films they make have extremely low-budgets.  Instead of relying on grand special effects, they focus on creating original scripts, emotionally complex situations, and intriguing characters.  For more information on their short films, check out the ‘Films‘ section.

In addition to producing short films, Julie and Jessica write short and feature-length screenplays meant to be produced on a larger scale with bigger budgets.  Their primary goal: to tell stories that are at once familiar, uncomfortable, demented, and exhilarating.  The ladies wrote the feature-length thriller TILT for director Phil Holbrook, co-wrote the voice-over script for the friendly fire documentary A SECOND KNOCK AT THE DOOR (5414 Productions), are in the midst of revising their edgy modern melodrama for indie phenom Gary King (New York Lately, What’s Up Lovely), crafting an erotic thriller for a very talented friend, and shopping around their adaptation of author Kevin Keck’s naughty memoir for the big screen. For more information about their completed scripts, check out ‘Screenplays.

Jessica and Julie have also ventured outside of filmmaking this year, teaming up with the online distribution hub tellofilms to write and produce the live game show WHO KNOWS HER BETTER (hosted by The L Word’s Elizabeth Keener) and write the lesbian coming-of-age tale I HATE TOMMY FINCH, which premiered in Chicago in October of 2011 to 3 sold-out audiences and will be available as a web series in early 2012. Recently Julie and Jess joined tellofilms as the Chief Creative and Operations Officers. Expect more Kfink/tello collaborations soon…

When not writing or filming or web series-ing, Jessica is an English and film teacher, and Julie consults with independent filmmakers and nonprofit businesses on how to use social media.
