You'll find sections on just about anything of interest to HOPE attendees. If you think something is missing start a thread in the "General Questions" forum and/or ask people about it. Thanks for participating and see you at HOPE!

The best way to meet people you might never ordinarily have met at HOPE is to spend some of your time there as an "angel." HOPE is a product of its community and you make it the magical event it is by contributing to it! Find out about volunteering some of your time here and get answers with regard to using the angel system.

Travel and Accommodations

How do you get to New York City cheaply? How do you get around when you arrive and where will you stay once you get there? To plan some carpooling for you and all your gear or find nice people to split a room with, look here and connect with HOPE attendees doing the same. Be somewhat cautious in what you agree to and with whom and have a serious back-up plan. Discuss future venue ideas for HOPE here.Wiki Page

General Questions

These topics have answers and general HOPE related questions like what to expect at HOPE, in New York, and in the USA. If you want to discuss stuff like that or what you should pack and bring to the event, you can most likely find the solution on one of these threads. If it has not been addressed in any other specific forum, start your own thread here and watch for responses with the information you need.

While we all know HOPE is the climax of activities for hackers, the sad fact is that it only comes but once every two years. So how should we keep ourselves occupied until then? You tell us! No matter where in the world you are, there must be something of interest to hackers on the horizon. This section is for you to share this information with the rest of us.

General Talk

Do you have something to say that doesn't seem to fit in any other topic? Post it here. Please keep the conversation fitting to the HOPE forum. I am fairly sure most here won't care what Hello Kitty has been up to lately.

The Next HOPE (2010)

The Next HOPE was held on July 16-18, 2010; the theme was a hopeful look to the future. This conference had the return of the Radio Statler! and OpenAMD projects. The workshops were packed at all hours. Unforgettably, The Next HOPE was marked by record numbers of federal agents pursuing one of the keynote speakers.

The Last HOPE (2008)

The Last HOPE was quite memorable to this day. It was held on July 18-20, 2008 at the Hotel Pennsylvania. Due to the possibility of the Hotel Pennsylvania being tore down, it was rumored that The Last HOPE was really going to be the last HOPE.

HOPE Number Six (2006)

HOPE Number Six, with a theme based around the series "The Prisoner", was held on July 21-23, 2006 in the Hotel Pennsylvania. The conference offered a hands-on approach with the workshop area. Giving attendees a chance to play with lockpicking, LED Throwies, and more.

The Fifth HOPE (2004)

With The Fifth HOPE, we made better use of all of the space we had access to and expanded our speaking schedule. Held on July 9-11, 2004, we finally found our groove with this one and still managed to not do the same thing each time.

H2K2 (2002)

With H2K2 (the name nobody was expecting), we expanded into some former retail space on the second floor of the Hotel Pennsylvania, making this the hacker conference with the most space ever in the States, held on July 12-14, 2002.

H2K (2000)

H2K was a pivotal HOPE conference which brought us back to the Hotel Pennsylvania from July 14-16, 2000 and started us on a two year alternating schedule with the European hacker conferences.

Beyond HOPE (1997)

We hadn't planned on doing HOPE more than once initially. But after a few years we decided to give it another go and held Beyond HOPE from August 8-10, 1997. This is the only HOPE conference not held at the Hotel Pennsylvania and it was a financial disaster, mostly due to our charging only $20 at the door. The conference itself was a lot of fun from what we've heard and the memories continue to this day.

Hackers On Planet Earth (1994)

The very first HOPE conference was held over two days: August 13 and 14, 1994. It came about when the Summercon organizers asked us if 2600 would like to host their conference that year. Instead we wound up starting something new and it wound up being the first "really big" hacker conference in the United States.

Ideas for Conference Name

HOPE is different from all those other conferences. We don't just stick a year or a number after our name and congratulate ourselves on being creative. Each HOPE conference has had its own unique name and theme. We believe we can continue this tradition indefinitely. But part of this tradition involves reaching out to the community for inspiration. So what will the next HOPE conference be called?

Save the Hotel!

As we were preparing to launch this forum, we got the disturbing news that plans were in the works to demolish our beloved Hotel Pennsylvania, a move that could spell the end of HOPE. Here we'll discuss ways we can stop this, contingency plans, and all sorts of other methods of keeping HOPE alive.
