Rapper Ms. Melodie, noted for her work as part of the famed hip-hop group Boogie Down Productions, has died. Several sources have reported on her untimely passing, however, a cause of death has yet to be given.

Born Ramona Parker in Brooklyn, N.Y., Ms. Melodie was once married to MC KRS-One, a member of BDP. Her hip-hop roots were recognized with her first single, the 1988 KRS-produced track "Hype According to Ms. Melodie."

Subsequently in 1989, the rhymer debuted her first album, Diva, which was largely produced by KRS and released under Jive/RCA Records. The effort features songs like "Live on Stage," "B..B..B.. Bklyn" and "Roll on Over," among others.

She also appeared on BDP's fourth album, Edutainment, on the song "7 Dee Jays," and made a cameo in Queen Latifah's "Ladies First" video.

Several entertainers shared their sentiments on Twitter upon hearing news the rapper passed away.

"RIP Ms. Melodie. a dope MC," Def Jam Records co-founder Russell Simmons said.

"RIP Miss Melody. Please keep her children, family & loved ones in ur prayers. ‪#HipHopRoyalty," singer Monifa wrote.

"Ms. Melodie formerly of Boogie Down Productions has passed on! God keep and protect her soul!" former host of MTV's "Yo! MTV Raps" Ed Lover tweeted.

Ms. Melodie is survived by two sons.
