Version 5 adds icon creation functionality, as well as support for Windows 7.
While high-end image editing applications such as Photoshop can be tapped for just about any graphics task, one area where they fall short is icon creation. Aha-Soft's IconLover is one of the leading icon creation and editing apps for the Windows environment, with support for the upcoming Windows 7 now added. It can process 16 and 256-color icons, as well as True Color images with alpha channel, so icons for both new and old versions of Windows can be created. A new icon replacement wizard is said to have the ability to replace icons located in executable files, DLLs, and Macromedia Flash files in "just a few easy steps."
Beyond Windows users, IconEditor is targeted to Windows developers and web site creators, and can support graphics of any arbitrary dimensionsfor example, 512x512 icons for Macintosh OS X Leopard and iPhone. New in version 5 are Drop Shadow and Aqua effects, to create realistic 3D glass icons complete with reflections and shadows. Numerous settings and parameters provide control of the icon's dimensions, making it possible to create flat, lens-shaped, or spherical-looking icons.
IconLover 5 for Windows can be purchased on the Aha-Soft site for $49.95. A trial version is also available for download.
