Description of App

As described in the iTunes Store:

Sendero Group develops and distributes accessible GPS for the blind on 6 types of devices. If you purchase Sendero LookAround for the iPhone, you will not only get useful location information, you will be underwriting the cost of accessible GPS for people who are blind or visually impaired. Thank you for supporting Location Information For Everyone.

Sendero GPS LookAround for the iPhone announces the current street, city, cross street, heading and nearby points of interest. Unlike Sendero's other apps, there is no turn-by-turn navigation on the iPhone yet. For more information on the other Sendero navigation devices, visit the company's Accessible GPS Products page.

Note: Voice Over is free speech output software built into the iPhone. When enabled under Settings, General, Accessibility, it provides a verbal representation
of the print text shown on the screen, an essential feature for people who are blind and useful for people with sight as well.

#1 Only compass works for the iPad 3G+Wi-Fi

Submitted by Esther on 17 March 2011.

Neither the current version (1.2, released March 15, 2011) nor either of the previous versions of this app is useful for iPads equipped with 3G+Wi-Fi. The only function that works is the compass function, which relies on the built-in compass in the 3G iPad units, and which users can access directly through other (free) iPad and iPhone apps. For any other function, such as current location, nearest intersection, and points of interest query, the message comes back "limited position information available". If you try to use the "map" button the message is "cannot connect to Internet". These same functions work with all other GPS navigation apps that I have tried with the iPad 3G+Wi-Fi under the same circumstances, as does the default "maps" app. Support for the iPad 3G+Wi-Fi has been requested and sent in as feedback since the original app's release, but is not yet present. I'd suggest modifying the entry for the LookAround app's iPad compatibility so that new iPad 3G+Wi-Fi users are not misled about the app's usefulness on their devices.

#2 Sendero LookAround

Submitted by Janet I on 13 June 2011.

This is a great app if you just want to know where you are and if there are any points of interest nearby. I have used this app in Manhattan and it works well, even with all the tall buildings. In my opinion, this is money well spent.

#3 Make it clear that iPod Touch and iPad models are not supported

Submitted by Esther on 19 December 2011.

Please change the wording under "Compatifility" that "This is a native iPhone and iPod Touch app that is displayed in 2x mode on an iPad" to make it clear that Sendero GPS LookAround does not support any use with the iPod Touch or iPad, even when GPS functionality has been added with an external GPS device or when the iPad in question has built-in 3G+WiFi support. I continue to read App Store review comments from users who bought this app for their iPod Touch, only to find that it does not work for their devices. I think revising your Compatibilty statement will help, as will including a comment in the main description of the app that this only works for the iPhone -- regardless of what other GPS programs will work on your iPod Touch with external GPS or iPad, even with built-in GPS capability.
