The 99 Cents Only store in Glendale currently has 9.75 ounce packages of Christmas sugar cookies for just 33 cents each. That works out to almost two pounds of cookies for single buck. The one type has sprinkles, the other has a bit of jam or fruit filling on top. I bought a package of the latter type before Christmas, and they weren't so bad. Whether they're in other stores in L.A. isn't known, but they probably have some left over bargains.
There will be a flickr meetup on Sunday, January 28, 2007 at Union Station. Apparently it involves some of the members of this group walking around and taking pictures.
The Chinese Historical Society of Southern California conducts low-priced walking tours of Los Angeles' Chinatown, and they're apparently working with the Studio for Southern California History to conduct a free tour on Saturday, January 27, 2007.
The following product shot might be a bit appetizing, until you know the backstory: that's exactly how I bought it. How kind of someone to only eat half and then put it back in the freezer section under other items. Of course, I didn't run a DNA test so perhaps it was a fluke manufacturing defect, but I rather doubt it.
The 99 Cents Only store in Glendale at San Fernando and Sonora is giving away calendars. And, they're free! And, they're from this year, but a little work will turn them into 2007 or even universal calendars. Stick it to the calendar man by picking up a free calendar today.
Whether you can obtain the same deal at other locations is not known to this reporter.
Those of you who've always wanted to meet Paris Hilton can do so tonight between 5 and 7pm at the Montebello Town Center. Just one catch: you need to buy two or more items from her perfume line.

Blogger conferences are usually junk (IMHO) and filled with people best kept a several keyboards worth of distance. Nevertheless, USC's Online Journalism Review will be conducting a free confab on March 3, 2006. Unfortunately, all the spots are filled up (or so they say, but they'll probably make room for Big Time Bloggers), but you can always sign up for their waiting list. Or, you can just hang around outside looking plaintively through the windows hoping they'll let you in.
According to this, there will be a massive pillow fight at 6pm on Valentine's day at Justin Herman Plaza located at Market and Embarcadero. The event is free except for any pillows you destroy.
