YafaRay is a free open-source raytracing engine. Raytracing is a rendering technique for generating realistic images by tracing the path of light through a 3D scene. A render engine consists of a "faceless" computer program that interacts with a host 3D application to provide specific raytracing capabilities "on demand". Blender 3D is YafaRay main host application at the moment. The YafaRay engine is released under the LGPL 2.1 license. You can download YafaRay binaries and the source code in the downloads section.

YafaRay Code Sprint. Madrid, October 25-28, 2012.

This year a code sprint is going to take place in Madrid on 25-28 October for developers of the YafaRay engine. The main purpose is to motivate and support this new generation of coders who are doing a great work on YafaRay and the exporters, and at the same time to keep 'old' developers on the loop. The event is also open to developers who want to get started with YafaRay for the first time. We will use the project funds to cover for attender's travel and accomodation expenses. YafaRay 0.1.2 Beta 5a add-on for Blender 2.63a released

YafaRay 0.1.2 Beta 5a add-on for Blender 2.63a has been released. We have finished support for b-mesh in Blender. Instanced objects and border rendering support are also finished. Other bug fixes have been implemented as well.

We are still fighting with black and white dots bugs, please report to the community if you find any of those on your renders. In this release we have disabled optimisation code that leads to unsafe maths, so YafaRay should be a bit slower but less prone to nasty dots. We are working on new optimisation methods.

You can download the YafaRay add-on from here. Please report your bugs and findings on this thread.

If you are doing your own builds, please built them with -ffast-math enabled but comment out #define FAST_MATH in /include/utilities/mathOptimizations.h

El equipo de YafaRay ha preparado una guía que explica en español y en profundidad diversos conceptos sobre iluminación y raytracing aplicados a YafaRay. También se hace mención expresa a la edición de imágenes usando el compositor de Blender y referencia a casos prácticos de iluminación. Los conceptos explicados en esta guía pueden ser aplicados a cualquier motor de raytracing. Esperamos que os guste.

YafaRay 0.1.2 Beta 4 add-on for Blender 2.62 released

YafaRay 0.1.2 Beta 4 add-on for Blender 2.62 has been released. We have fixed the arealight bug that produced wrong reflections and rendering of the light itself. Apart from that, normal mapping has been fixed and there is a first implementation of border rendering. However, border rendering is not finished yet, so just be sure you don't cancel rendering when border rendering is enabled or either Blender will crash. Since the arealight bug is a critical one, we recommend immediate upgrade.
