    2010 Editor & Community Achievements
    International Growth & Expansion
    Expansion of World/Ukrainian
During 2010, the number of listed sites in the World/Ukrainian branch increased by approximately 50% and Editor School was offered for the first time in this branch. Additionally, two editors attained high-level permissions in this area: one was granted access to the top level and the other received CatMod permissions.

    Editor Promotions in World/Russian
The World/Russian branch promoted a team of senior editors (CatMod and Editall permission levels). These editors are ilyawww, raouf, tanstaaf1, vader and valeryiv. This is an important step for the Russian branch and ODP overall.

    Addition of New Language Branches
Last year, salis created four new language branches including World/Kyrgyz, World/O'zbekcha, World/Türkmençe, and World/Uyghurche. In 2010, editors completed work to add World/Bashkir to the directory, and this language was activated in January 2011.

    Tool Development Work
The editor community builds and maintains tools to help improve editing processes. During 2010, editors chaos127, development, jtaylorj, plantrob and rpfuller all worked to upgrade critical editor tools to keep directory processes running smoothly.

    Personal Editor Milestones
    Editor Anniversaries
We had a number of editors who celebrated their tenth anniversary with the directory in 2010. Congratulations on a decade of service go out to the following editors: albinfo, anthronet, bkalafut, boni, eddiep, edseward, ikw, jdaw1, kokopeli, liszt, mcowley, mngolden, motsa, ock, pvgool, rd232, sammy, smoorefu, stn77 and sutty.

    Special Thanks...
For the past two years, we've had several editors who have worked collaboratively with our AOL Staff team to provide an editorial perspective to our ongoing projects and processes. Photofox, plantrob and sthenbelle's contributions have been invaluable, and we're very grateful that they have given additional time and effort as editor liaisons.

    In Memoriam

Sadly, editor cicka passed away in 2010. She was a Catmod in both World/Srpski and World/Magyar. Her contributions to the directory were numerous, and included opening a new Editor School for World/Srpski. She will be greatly missed.

    1. In regard to corruption within DMOZ - I doubt there is much of a problem, because it would be very risky for such a large company with so many important ties to do such things (why risk losing millions of dollars when you don't have to)?. I have to admit, I have not yet been able to find a website I submitted to the system but it's probably just because they haven't gotten to it yet.

    3. I think DMOZ shall soon be disposed of due to lack of ability to keep up with growth. Probably the most worthless directory on the internet. Categorically a misplaced mush mash of gobbledygook. Or more precisely: FUBAR. It has been constantly loosing ground and is mostly not respected as it once was. As far as corruption of the Editors I doubt that. It is more likely that those in charge are not making good decisions. The categories are just gross and have no rhyme or reason. Trying to find anything is impossible. The single handed largest display of inadequacy categorized by meaningless dribble for a few that still even know you exist at all.

    4. There are some sites on web which are entertaining users to speedy dmoz submission. If they are providing such real services then might be there a chance of corruption. Also DMOZ is lacking behind in adding new sites. So how can a directory represent an internet database while having only a chunk of the size of websites?
i submitted my technewscast.com a month ago and yet there is no response. Should i go to pay 300$ for speedy inclusion???

    10. I wish DMOZ all the best in 2011 but with the future of AOL and the backlog of sites, the now dead links and the high requirements of becoming an editor even for an area your not interested in. I think is becoming a monumental taks, I hope the schools work well to allow those interested to make it to be a editor at least.

    14. DMOZ has been growing in demand and now Google has changed its algorithm which enhanced the listing of DMOZ directory. Many content run websites have witnessed heavy drop in revenue due to recent move by Google. Softnwords and the unique content exchange platform will drive more attention in coming days. A listing in DMOZ is very hard and it takes two weeks time for a very reputed website.

    15. I have applied our websiteto add url in DMOZ.ORG, but so long time I am still waiting. Can some editor help to add?

Posted at 9:54AM on Mar 3rd 2011 by Warson Printing

    16. Robert Weig it's right it's hard to get a listing on DMOZ because in order to get a website listed, except the fact that you need to submit your website to the right category, there are other factors that most don't keep in mind before submitting an website

    Wish DMOZ the best ..

    17. I just tried to become an editor but got stuck at the form. The form is not working, it constantly gives me "Not a valid parameter". I tried filling it out in Chrome, firefox and even Internet Explorer, I thought it had something to do with the browser I was using. I spend about half an hour on this and after about 30 failed submissions I am trying to find any means of contacting technical support at dmoz, but wait, there is none! What a frustration.

    20. Little disappointed with DMOZ. Need to submit a new site to a category and tried to do so 2 months ago with no luck - it turns out the category I wanted to submit to and all related (antiques and collectables) haven't been updated in about 2-3 years and are full of out-of-date sites. Very disappointing, is there anyway to get in direct contact with the editor of a category?

Appreciate the mammoth task DMOZ undertakes in indexing the web, but the levels of secrecy just seem to be leading to an out-of-date and unhelpful directory.
