SURREY - Flavours of Surrey returns to Fusion Festival this weekend for two days of good eats from local cooks and bakers at Holland Park.

The fifth annual event will run from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., featuring a dozen food vendors and a celebrity chef stage.

Chef Chuck Currie of White Spot is one of nine confirmed celebrity chefs this year, marking his first appearance at Fusion Festival.

"We have a wonderful opportunity, especially in the summer in B.C., to use local products," said Currie, adding he will make dishes using ingredients from the Lower Mainland.

Currie is slated to take the stage at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday for a 30-minute cooking demonstration, and he hopes to stick around and chat with the crowd afterward.

"I'm hoping that we do a really good job and they really like us and ask us back," Currie said.

The chef stage will also showcase the gourmet Indian food of Vikram Vij, owner of Vij's in Vancouver and the chef behind Vij's Inspired Indian Cuisine product line.

The food displays will have a farmers' market section for fresh produce and cooked-to-order tents with such dishes as turkey smokies and a variety of soups from Glenlochar Kitchens.

Admission is free, but the Fusion Festival uses tickets to sell food, with $1 per ticket.

Tickets can be purchased at one of three booths onsite and redeemed for food at the food pavilion. Unused tickets will not be refunded.
