  spacer    Oktoberfest 2010 Date:   10/26/2010
Oktoberfest 2010 was a blast! Thanks to all who showed up. All 400+ of you! Much thanks to The Outlaw Kookers for serving up plenty authentic and FRESH German food. The guys and gals over there at TOK get my vote for best meatballs EVER. The beer, of course, was just as enjoyable. We designated one tap to beers that we (Dave, Jeff, and Emil) had recently brewed on a test batch scale (5-10 gallons) and had everyone who tried them, rate them. The results were great! Thanks for the feedback! Favorites of the night seemed to be hoppy beers. Hooray!!! I guess the worst part about Oktoberfest is that it didn't clean up after itself... or set itself up, for that matter. Still, totally worth it.

Tours resume this saturday and I can't wait. 1-3 see you there!

spacer    National HB Day Date:   5/3/2010

Well, National homebrew day here at the brewery went off without a hitch.  I was kind of sweating bullets near the end there, but we had enough to go around.  I will post up some pics as soon as someone sends me some pics, as I was too stupid to bring my own camera.  Anyhoo, here is the recipe:

18bbls

883# Rahr Pale Ale
110# Simpsons Brown
110# Simpsons Cara 30-37
75# Wyermann Munich II
12# Briess Cherrywood Smoked Malt

1 hr mash (152F), 1 hr Boil

Hops Schedule:

60    3.5# Palisade

20    1.45 # Palisade

10    .5# Nugget

0      3# Sterling

I will get more details about the upcoming tasting of the completed versions of said weird beer as we get a little closer.  For now, let’s just say in a couple of months.

Hope everyone had a great time and learned something.  I learned not to stay up until 2 in the morning the night before.   On second thought I didn’t learn that, as I would do it all over again.
Cheers!

  spacer    Finnish Metal Date:   5/1/2010

I know that I am somewhat off target here, but something must be said about the concert I went to last night.  For those that know me, it should come as no surprise that I am a fan of Scandinavian Folk metal, especially the band Moonsorrow.  Most of the beer coming out of the brewery has been brewed, conditioned, or somehow infused with the power of this awesome band from Finland.  Since my days at SA, I have been waiting for this band to make it’s way to Houston, and last night that finally happened.  Not only that, but they came with Swallow the Sun and Finntroll (who have been described as folkish hoe-down metal).  Sounds good already.

Eschewing the fact that I had to be at the brewery at seven this morning for National homebrew day, I was off to see the concert of the decade.  Man, was I glad I did.  Swallow the Sun delivered a flawless set of their signature quasi-depressive heaviness followed by Moonsorrow, who absolutely, positively blew the roof off.  These guys really delivered.  Viking metal at it’s finest.  After them came Finntroll who sing in Norwegian, as they find it more “trollish” than their native Finnish tongue.  These guys took the night to a whole new level.  They picked up on the energy that Moonsorrow got rolling and by the time they were done with their set, they had the audience whipped up into a genuine frenzy.  Half of Moonsorrrow came out and played multiple songs with them.  Overall, this had to be one of the best shows I have ever had the pleasure of attending.

I wanted to give the guys from Moonsorrow a token of my appreciation and bring them a few cases of beer.  I hope the guys enjoyed Conroe’s finest.  You guys freaking ROCKED, and I can’t wait too catch you when you return!
