end of the week

wednesday night, i met up with my cousin david and his friend sayuri (a hapa).  they drove down from SF, and they wanted chinese food, so i took them to cafe yulong.  david recently quit his job, and he’s going to travel the world (in fact, he’s going to visit my parents in taiwan next), so i paid for the dinner.  there was no way i would have let him share the bill.  afterward, we went to tapioca express.  david and sayuri have known each other since elementary school!  man, i can count on one hand the number of friends i still keep in touch with from that long ago.  it’s nice to have such a history with someone.

thursday night, we had out GNO (guy’s night out).  8 of of us met at tanto, which i had been to before for lunch, but never for dinner.  apparently, for dinner, it becomes an izakaya-style menu, which means small (rather exotic) plates.  we ordered a ton of food, and the tab for the  8 of us came out to just under $300.  however, two of the 8 guys (jack and jose) were celebrating birthdays in october, so the 6 of us paid $48 each.  wow!  poor jeremy wasn’t full, i bet.  anyways, some of the food was decent, but we just didn’t have enough of it.

this tanto (i think there are two) was situated in front of a strip mall, and behind it was this place called “sporty’s bikini bar.”  i had seen it before, and i have always been curious about it.  i made a half-hearted push for us to go in, but in the end, we didn’t.  oh well.  someday, i *will* go there and check it out.  i’m just afraid that it will be inhabited by big beefy trashy drunk people who will beat me into a pulp.

i’m still getting used to wordpress.  mikeT is helping me out greatly, and it’s not going to go unnoticed.  he told me that he will host my site for free, but i have already told him that i will pay him for webhosting and general IT services.  i will mail him a year-worth of payment next week.

wordpress seems very powerful.  at least, compared to my old version of MT.

right now, the USC/oregon game is a blowout.  oregon is quite dominant, i must say.  good for them.  somebody in the pac-10 has to give USC a run for its money.

ok, i’m headed out soon.  it’s halloween night, but where i live, there are no kids.  i just stepped outside, and down the street outside, i saw some kids going trick-or-treating.  cute.

welcome to the brave new world, round 4

well, this is take 4 of my online journal. this past wednesday night, the server that was hosting my blog finally died. i was staying on that old server (with digital forest, my hosting company) because i needed ssh access, and that old thing finally went kaputz.  i told them to move me to a new server, which they did, but all the CGI scripts failed to run, rendering my movabletype-powered blog dead.

so my options were to have them re-install MT, or move on to wordpress, the latter of which i decided to do.  and i also decided to restart my blog, hence take 4.  and in the process, i moved my blog to mikeT’s server.  so long, digital forest!  (i will call them on monday and try to get a pro-rated amount of money back.)

today (saturday), i woke up, and i went over to mikeT’s place, and he had already done a lot of work to set up my wordpress blog up.  i picked out this orange (called “shinRa of the sun”) theme to not shock you guys into having another template.  and after changing my DNS and all that, this thing is finally back up.  i hope you didn’t miss me too much.  spacer

anyways, mike is helping me upload my old blog’s archives right now, so i don’t want to write too much and interfere.  i just want to let you guys know that i’m alive, and so is this blog.  take 3 took me from 2004 to nearly the end of 2009.  peace out, and let’s hope that i can continue to write trouble-free (free from server issues) for many years to come.
