I made this photograph at the Boston University Photography Club’s first photowalk of the 2010-2011 school years. After two years at the helm of the BUPhotoClub, I’ve graduated from BU and stepped down as President of the group. As the fall semester gets under way, I wish the new president, Alex Howton and the rest of the eBoard the best of luck and all the success possible.

For the record, the title was partially inspired by the subjects of the photograph. By which I mean one of them chose the word “Sunny” at random and the other chose the word “Cheese” at random.

So after many months, this will be my final post from last summer’s roadtrip across the Southwestern United States. I could post more, but I don’t think I will- at least not in the forseeable future.
This particular photograph was taken in Silverton, Colorado. Silverton’s a popular tourist destination along the Million Dollar Highway partially due to the gold mining from decades past and partially due to the highly recommended Durango/Silverton train that transports hundreds of thousands of visitors between the two cities each summer.
I’ve got a small number of photographs left to post from 2011 and one more from 2010. I’ll begin posting more recent photographs soon.

This will be my last photograph from my series on White Sands National Monument. I still have one more photograph to post from last summer’s roadtrip through the Southwest United States and I’ll post it as well ass the half dozen or so photographs I’ve marked to upload from before 2012. I’ll start posting this year’s photographs soon after that.

Here’s another photograph I made at White Sands National Monument last June. I’ve only got one more photo from WSNM left to post after this one and two more overall from the whole road trip through the Southwest United States. I’ll start posting photographs from this year soon thereafter.
See the rest of my photographs of White Sands National Monument here.

Here’s a closeup of what the gypsum surface of the dunes at White Sands National Monument looks like. As I’ve mentioned before, the “sand” is actually gypsum, a soft mineral that is almost never found in a “sandlike” form outside of White Sands National Monument due to its natural solubility in water. While the dunes look like loose grains on the surface, they are actually quite solid under the surface and are surprisingly easy to walk on.
