Oracle™ Certified Professional Java™ SE 7 Programmer Boot Camp

Last modified: 16 August 2012

Information

We conduct a FREE ten (10) week Oracle™ Certified Professional Java™ SE 7 Programmer exam preparation that is open to all members.

If you wish to participate, please purchase the required books and have completed reading the sections prior to coming to the meeting. The books, presentations, and code samples can be found here.

NOTE: If you want to participate in the boot camp, please sign up at JUG Events.

The code examples that I provide are mind bending, atrocious, and often difficult to understand. However, everyone who has taken the course has found that if you can understand my code examples, the examples on the exam are easier. The code examples I provide may, or may not work. The trick is to understand: will it compile, will it run, and what is the expected output.

This is a crowd participation course. I am sure you are asking what that means. Simply put, anyone who participates is expected to contribute a presentation, code examples, or both. This forces everyone to make an effort to particpate. If you are unsure of what code examples to use, I can provide it.

Specific topics will be covered by John Yeary such as the general meeting, Chapters 1-3, and 10, but this is very fluid. We will adjust this based on our attendees, and attempt to offer choices for presentations. If there is no attendee presenter, John Yeary will cover the topic.

The general session format is provided below. It consists of an introductory meeting, followed by ten weeks of sessions, and an exam overview.

  • General Meeting
  • Chapter 10 - Development
  • Chapter 01 - Declarations and Access Control
  • Chapter 02 - Object Orientation
  • Chapter 03 - Assignment
  • Chapter 04 - Operators
  • Chapter 05 - Flow Control, Exceptions, and Assertions
  • Chapter 06 - Strings, I/O, Formatting, and Parsing
  • Chapter 07 - Generics and Collections
  • Chapter 08 - Inner Classes
  • Chapter 09 - Threads
  • Exam Review

We have setup a mailing list for the boot camp. You must be a member of the JUG to use it. Please see the side-bar for all of the JUG's mailing lists.
