Where is America’s Manliest City?

If your city has lots of motorcycles, your neighbors love salty snacks and all your friends are construction workers, you may live in America’s Manliest City — that’s the message of a survey of 50 cities conducted by Combos (yes, the snack) and Sperling’s BestPlaces. However, if you are surrounded by home furnishing stores, coffee shops and sushi restaurants, you live in Wussville.

The 3rd Annual Combos “America’s Manliest Cities” survey ranked Nashville as the nation’s manliest city, currying favor on the Tennessee town for its Titans (NFL) and Predators (NHL), a plethora of BBQ and chicken wing joints and the number of construction workers, police officers and firefighters working in Music City.

New for this year, Combos and Sperling’s used a Board of Manliness to complete the rankings, with bodybuilder Lou Ferrigno, former pro wrestler Sgt. Slaughter, Baseball Hall of Famer Rollie Fingers, comedian Judy Gold, world beard champion Jack Passion and lumberjack champ Mike Sullivan helping determine each city’s fate.

Charlotte, Oklahoma City, Memphis, Columbia, SC, Cleveland, Birmingham, Milwaukee, Houston and St. Louis followed Nashville in the Top 10.

So, which cities need to man-up?

Los Angeles finished last, with three other California towns — San Diego, San Francisco and Oakland — finishing 49-47. Obviously, the ranking panel has never been to a Raiders’ game.
