spacer An Enterprise Management Associates (EMA) report finds more than three-fourths of all enterprises report that cloud computing has delivered  “real, measurable cost savings,” under the proper deployment.  The EMA report, “The Responsible Cloud,” surveyed 159 enterprise IT decision-makers.

EMA analysts surveyed 159 enterprise managers with active and planned cloud deployments.  EMA defines a “The Responsible Cloud,” as a well-manage, secure, compliant cloud that delivers reliable and efficient business services.

“Cloud computing offers many opportunities, but also creates significant new challenges for IT operations, security, and service management,” said Andi Mann, Vice President, Systems and Storage Management at EMA, in a statement. “[E]xperienced organizations show how a responsible approach to cloud computing can drive… ROI, CapEx and OpEx reduction, agility [and] operational maturity,”

Key ROI findings from EMA’s research include:

  • More than 75% of enterprises report saving 20% on capital and operating expenses, on average.
  • Some 70% of experienced organizations said “IT Management” expertise is important to the success (or failure) of cloud computing

Enterprises looking at cloud in only one dimension -- such as virtualization, storage, security, or performance -- are not getting the full picture of cloud computing, and likely are leaving major cost savings on the table, EMA officials found.  “EMA analysts took a cross disciplined approach to evaluating cloud, and included analysis of virtualization, data center automation, storage, security, compliance, networking, applications, and service management, Mann sad.

EMA’s ”The Responsible Cloud” is available for purchase.  It reviews these topics:

  • What is ‘The Responsible Cloud’, why is it important, and how can you get there?
  • How is cloud computing really deployed in enterprises today and in the future?
  • What are the real drivers and outcomes from current production cloud deployments?
  • How does management and governance affect cloud outcomes.
