Welcome from the Director

It is time to tell the vitally important story of U.S. diplomacy. The Department of State’s work encompasses all that Americans value: peace, freedom, security, and prosperity. Diplomacy touches our everyday lives. It is a story that needs to be told, and the United States Diplomacy Center is the ideal place to tell it.

The U.S. Diplomacy Center will be a unique destination for exploring the history, practice, and challenges of U.S. diplomacy. It will foster a greater understanding of the role of U.S. diplomacy, past, present, and future. Education will be at the core of the Center’s work, drawing on the experiences of our diplomats as case studies and as the basis for interactive simulations.

The U.S. Diplomacy Center will dedicate 35,000 square feet at the Department of State’s headquarters – just blocks from the White House – to bringing the story of American diplomacy to life. This space will invite audiences to explore the impact of diplomacy using state-of-the-art technology, interactive exhibits, compelling artifacts, hands-on education programs, diplomatic simulations, and on-hand foreign affairs experts.

The award-winning architectural firm Beyer Blinder Belle and exhibition designers C&G Partners are translating this vision into a stunning reality. The U.S. Diplomacy Center will welcome visitors to a dramatic, three-story high steel and glass Pavilion, where they will be able to explore the important diplomatic work of the U.S. Department of State.
