It had been a touch week for the team, with Maria’s accident, and the team had to pull together to ensure they remained competitive for race weekend. They were completely professional and were motivated on both mornings by news that Maria was making a good recovery.

The Marussia F1 Team’s test driver, Maria De Villota, was hurt yesterday when her MR01 crashed into a support truck.

This was the first time Maria had the opportunity to drive the MR01 and the accident occurred when she was bringing the car into the pits. Reports suggested that the car suddenly accelerated, the wheels locked and the car crashed into the side of the truck – the Marussia F1 Team will update us on this.

The front of the MR01 and Maria’s helmet took the brunt of the impact and as a result she suffered very serious facial and head injuries.
