Overview
Established initially as a relay site due to its geographic location between mainland UK and Ireland, the Isle of Man is served by two of the world’s major telecommunications carriers, British Telecom (BT) and Cable & Wireless (C&W). Both carriers have established local breakout providing the Isle of Man with two fully independent, high capacity, resilient Dense Wave Division Multiplexed (DWDM) SDH rings ensuring the Isle of Man is served by state of the art communications infrastructure.
In addition to the above two carriers, the MEA were awarded the Isle of Man Government contract to light and manage the new sub-sea fibre optic cable and this came on stream as scheduled early 2008 adding another independent route and further capacity for Isle of Man communications.
Our Network
Netcetera have been providing high quality, high availability network capacity to serve our London Data Centres for over 15 years and our commitment to service availability is born out by our up-time statistics.
With the opening of the Netcetera Dataport this commitment to quality and availability now extends to the Isle of Man with our resilient, low latency switched layer2 network links connecting into our core infrastructure at Telehouse North in London Docklands. This ensures that the Netcetera core network is protected against fibre failure or any failure from single providers SDH network or equipment and the Dataport is only 10ms from peers at the major European exchange point and Tier 1 transit providers. We run both IPv4 and IPv6
Few hosts have gone to the extent of having:
- A fully Gigabit switched network
- 7 separate backbone providers
- Redundant routers and fibre coming in at multiple points to the building.
- Resilient & redundant London and Isle of Man based data centres.
We are also a members of the London Internet Exchange (LINX) - the most successful IXP in Europe.
Membership allows us to establish peering arrangements with other ISP’s to increase speed of all internet traffic across our servers. Due to this, we have over 150 peering arrangements with worldwide ISPs/Telco’s including NTL, AOL, Demon and Microsoft and total bandwidth capabilities of 5,400Mbps.
