Hello World

spacer

So we are going to try this again for the who the hell knows million'th time.  I'm the worst about trying to get get back into blogging/posting here and then timing out.  What can I say, I get busy and there is only so much multitasking I can do.  Things are getting better though and I'm starting to get my head back on straight.  So here's a brief "catch up" on me.

In April of 2010, my 11 year's of service with JPMC came to and end.  While it all started as First North American National Bank (FNANB), we were purchased by Bank One and then within 2 months, purchased again by JPMorgan Chase (JPMC).  So, I count my whole time there as JPMC since it just makes life easier and life before JPMC sucked.  Anyway, so that all came to an end with the closing of the site I worked at.  My time at JPMC was good, I learned a lot, but I also got very specialized and closed in.  My last year there I finally got exposed to new technologies (VMware the most) and liked what I saw.  It was a welcome change to doing desktop break/fix, server break/fix and a fair bit of cable jocky.  We won't discuss the Customer Service end of the spectrum as that was just listening to the rep's complain about anything they could to get off the phones.

So at the end of April, I said good-bye to JPMC and continued my search for a new home.  I had a few interviews and we all know 2010 was bad time to be looking for a job, but for some reason, I wasn't all that worried.  Some of those interviews were really bad and other's were great until relocation came up.  I couldn't relocate and that sealed the deal for several.  I really wish they would have just asked that question first, rather then spending an hour selling myself only to hear "We think you're our guy, we like what we see and need you ASAP.  How soon can you move across the country?"  Doh!

Spring Cleaning

spacer

So I'm sure all of you must have thought that nothing was happening here right?  Wrong.  Since December, I've upgraded the sites backend (again) and I've been going through all the links & articles.  It's time consuming, but I'm going to start weeding things out that have no relavency in today's world.  When/if this site gets momentum back, I don't want folks to dig up some old rant by a former staffer and get the notion that things here are militant.

Letting BS (BloodSpite) use the site for military postings in hindsite was a poor choice.  I've since given him his own domain & site to write at (registeredevil.com).  The reason it was a poor choice is that now, I have to clean up everything that was posted which isn't easy.  Things are in incorrect catagories, some are dificult to identify due to title and several other factors.  So it's just taking me a while.

I've managed to weed out all the military links from he link section and now I'm trying to verify and recatagorize what's left.  It's a process, be sure.  I almost thought I was going to have to wipe the whole site and start over.....and maybe I should have, but there are a few bits of writting that hold relavance today an I'd sure hate to lose that.  So hang on just a bit longer, I'm almost done with my spring cleaning.

Welcome back to the latest burst of life from Techography

I think we are way past "third time's a charm".  I think we are on, 100th time, or something of that nature.  Anyway, I'm going to try, once again to get some decent info up on this site.

The new job is really taking off and I'm starting to get into the areas of IT that I've wanted to for some time.  I'm getting into large scale networking, back into Linux, deeper into Windows, playing with VMware and even tossing some Macintosh into the mix.

So, a little bit later, I'm going to try and get a few things posted up today and see how it goes from there.

Time waster of the day - Atari 2600 games on line

spacer

Everyone needs a mental dump here and there.  This one is for all of us that were born in the 70's that actually know what the hell an Atari is/was.  For all you 80's brats, ahh hell, I'm not even gonna bother, these will just be lame to you anyway.

A little humor for the day

spacer

I had to find something a bit humorus today.  Earlier this morning, the server that runs the internal IM communications server where I work crapped out.  That isn't funny so much, however, what it caused is a bit funny.

We (The IT group) normally have a very healthy ammount of incoming e-mail on any given day.  However, when this chat server went down, WOW!  We have folks that don't inform us of Client PC's in classroom's not working, projectors with blown bulb and any number of other important issues.  Let the chat server die and holy hell, watch the flood if incoming e-mail & tickets.

So, I found it funny, maybe some of you will as well.

So Busy

spacer

So, it's been a little over a month since the last update.  In that time I've gotten a new job (which I started this week) and picked up a new motorcycle for my wife.  It's been a crazy month and I haven't been this happy/busy in a long time.

My new job has come with some major changes compared to what I've been used to.  For starters, I now work in a Mac/Apple centric environment.  Now I know I've said some unfavorable things about Apple in the past, but this will truley put my thought and comments to the test.  An I will certainly be confirming what I've said, or eating a healthy serving of crow.  We shall see what happens.

An to wrap things up, I'm looking to overhaul the site.  I'm not sure if I will stay with Geeklog as my CMS system or if I will make a move to something else.  Either way, some things need to change as I feel the site looks very dated and it doesn't really project what I really want the site to say without words.  So look for some changes to crop up as I settle into my new job and get some time to work on the site.

An yes, this job will allow me time to work on the site.  It will also provide me with the environment I need to explore new technologies and learn many new facets in the technology arena in which to wite about.  So things should finally be on the move around here.  Wish me luck and keep an eye here on the site.
