I don't know what article Brett is responding to but I thought Jared's article "Short Changed" in the The American Prospect (Web Exclusive: 02.01.06) was well thought out. It made some good points and the reference to the analysis of Lee Price's was very interesting.
About Brett's posting I think it is interesting that 4 years into Bush's presidency Brett still believes that the economy's problems is Clinton's fault.

Who in their right mind believes that the policies of a president take immediate effect on the day they take office and then lose all their effect the day they leave office? Come one. Presidential influence on the economy is like those sweeper guys in curling. Not that they cannot have larger impact, but most policies provide minor guidance to where the economy is already going. Clinton's policies have impact for many years past his presidency. Same goes for Reagan. The direct cause and effect you are building your case on, just does not exist.
