This evening’s Clear Spot - 8:00pm -  is a discussion of the voice from both aesthetic and scientific perspectives. James Wilkes talks to Joe Banks, who researches audio illusions and Electronic Voice Phenomena, Professor Sophie Scott from UCL’s Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience, who gives an introduction to the physiology of speech and the place of laughter in communication, and scientists Pradheep Shanmugalingam (UCL) and Carolyn McGettigan (Royal Holloway) who discuss their research into sine-wave speech and vocal identity.  The programme also features poetry from Emma Bennett and Holly Pester, examples of Konstantins Raudive’s EVP recordings, and a beluga whale’ sttempt at english. This Clear Spot is a prelude to a symposium being held at the Science Museum’s Dana Centre on Friday 16th November. Further information here

In Out in South London  -  6:30pm – Sebastian Michael tells us about his debut film ‘The Hour of Living’ and Wendy Baverstock discusses Dawn French’s new book ‘Oh, Dear Silvia’ and its depiction of lesbians. In Studio Visit – 7:00pm – writer Morgan Quaintance talks to Minnesota-born, Berlin-based video artist and musician Kathleen Daniel. According to Quaintance Kathleen’s “oeuvre that mixes psychedelia, conscious poetry, surrealism, street-wise documentary, and new-age spiritualism Daniel’s singular aesthetic is both rich and strange”.  From 8:00pm, the Clear Spot. This evening, artist Maria Papadomanolaki surveys the work of the great Greek composer Manos Hadjidakis. From 9:00pm news, reprotage and historical eflection on Anarchism with The Circled A. Then at 9:30pm the classical avant-garde with Wolf Fifth. This evening, Luuk De Weert looks at “systems music” and the work of composers such as John White, Christopher Hobbs and the seminal Max Eastley/David Toop LP New And Rediscovered Musical Instruments. And to close, foul noise and vile presenters,  Abject Bloc takes you into midnight from 11:00pm.
